{"id":422,"date":"2014-03-06T22:56:36","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T22:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/not-so-great-northern-transmission-line.org\/?p=422"},"modified":"2014-05-21T18:07:06","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T18:07:06","slug":"canadian-nfat-hearing-has-begun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/not-so-great-northern-transmission-line.org\/?p=422","title":{"rendered":"Canadian NFAT Hearing has begun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/not-so-great-northern-transmission-line.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/canadianflag.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-424\" alt=\"canadianflag\" src=\"https:\/\/not-so-great-northern-transmission-line.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/canadianflag.jpg\" width=\"524\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/not-so-great-northern-transmission-line.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/canadianflag.jpg 804w, https:\/\/not-so-great-northern-transmission-line.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/canadianflag-300x146.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Half of the Great Northern Transmission Project is in Canada, where the transmission line is part of the much larger <strong>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/pdf\/terms_of_reference\/TermsOfReference-Ap25.pdf\">Manitoba Hydro\u2019s proposed preferred development plan for the Keeyask and Conawapa Generating Stations, their associated domestic AC transmission facilities and a new Canada-USA transmission interconnection.<\/a>&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/index.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Manitoba Public Utilities Board NFAT site for this project<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/index.html\"><em>Manitoba Hydro is seeking government approval for its proposed Preferred Development Plan, which requires the following commitments in June 2014:<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/index.html\"><em>start construction of the Keeyask generating station (G.S.) for a 2019 in-service date (ISD)<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/index.html\"><em>proceed with a 250 MW export agreement with Minnesota Power (MP)<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/index.html\"><em>proceed with a 100 MW export agreement with Wisconsin Public Service (WPS)<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/index.html\"><em>proceed with a 750 MW U.S. transmission interconnection<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/index.html\"><em>proceed with a 300 MW export agreement with WPS subject to satisfactory conclusion of negotiations currently still underway.<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/index.html\"><em>In addition, the plan would include Conawapa G.S., 1,485 MW, with an earliest ISD of 2026, although decisions on whether to construct Conawapa and its timing are not required now and would be made over the next few years.<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pub.gov.mb.ca\/nfat\/interveners.html\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Intervenors: CLICK HERE for identification and information about their cases<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They are going through a similar but MUCH more rigorous process, and the NFAT hearing has just begun, scheduled to extend from Monday&#8217;s beginning through May 13, 2014, with &#8220;Closing Submissions&#8221;
