The RM of Piney was planning to create a foundation that would offer scholarships and bursaries\u00a0to youth, among other\u00a0initiatives, as part of its $800,000 payment, Parent said.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It would have long-lasting benefits to the individuals here, because these towers are going to\u00a0be up for not just my generation, but many generations to come,” she said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0“provincial government has taken a different position on benefit programs,” Hydro\u00a0said in a statement, and\u00a0the Crown utility is “aligning itself with the government’s position.”\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spokesperson Bruce Owen added\u00a0that Manitoba Hydro\u00a0had the right to walk away because no agreements were ever signed or formally in place.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding\u00a0would have\u00a0been earmarked for\u00a0community enhancement projects,\u00a0including projects that promote environment sustainability or provide training, employment, economic development or develop community infrastructure,\u00a0Owen\u00a0wrote.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financial incentives from Hydro\u00a0remain\u00a0in place\u00a0for the owners of property\u00a0the route will go through.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
